Wow Gorilla! Students meet artist Laura Cramer

Local painter Laura Cramer was visited today by a bunch of our first year students. She is currently painting on a big gorilla at Bristol's Radisson Blu Hotel as part of Bristol Zoos 'Wow Gorilla' birthday celebrations.
Laura is painting local scenes and organic imagery onto her gorilla in a celebration of all things Bristol and natural. This project is set to celebrate the zoos 175th birthday and highlight the plight of gorillas possible extinction. These Gorillas will be unveiled in a parade around Bristol on the 4th of July and then placed in various locations locally.
A big thank you to Laura who not only took the time to explain her working process and route to success to our students but managed to motivate and inspire them- Thank you!

HBG Mural

These pics are a mural project that a group of second years did a couple of years ago, we were apporached by a local building site who wanted their site hoardings decorated and this is what our students came up with!
We like to do a large scale public project as often as possible as it is excellent professional practice for the students.

Clay pieces

Large vase made by a second year who has since gone on to study Ceramics at University

Tentacles made by Tom a current first year

Cardboard workshop

These carboard gargoyles were the result of a 'Cardboard Day' where students had nothing but cardboard, masking tape and slotting techniques to design and make their own cardboard gargoyle. Not a bad effort!

Public mural projects by students

This is a mural painted by 5 of our second year students last year, it is downstairs in the college canteen and student common area. As part of the course we like to give the students an opportunity to work on live briefs for people, this gives students an opportunity to experience first hand working for an employer on a commissioned brief.
